Perinatal Care – Before Baby, Birth, Post Baby

Are you expecting an arrival? Shortly going to give birth? Adjusting to being a new mom?

I have specialized in perinatal care for over 10 years and find it deeply meaningful to support mom’s to be or new mothers on what is an exciting but stressful transition to a phase of life we little understand until we’re thrown into it. The truth is that while pregnancy and birthing a child are miraculous events, they can bring up all kinds of challenges. It is wise to anticipate what might arise that will be difficult for us and be prepared to support our needs as much as possible. Dads are frequently a part of my work with moms.

Common issues I work with are:

  • Adapting to a new physical shape and size
  • Preparing for a new identity
  • Balancing work and pregnancy
  • Preparation for birth and levels of support desired (dulas, night nurses, lactation consultants)
  • Self care before and after baby
  • Supporting mental health difficulties before and after baby, e.g., depression, anxiety, ADD, OCD, eating disorders
  • Impacts on the partner relationship (shifts in responsibility, earnings, intimacy)
  • Miscarriages and birth complications
  • Adjustments – nurturing a new family dynamic
